The Project objectives will include

Learning a new skill or gaining a new qualification could be a step in the right direction towards improving your job prospects or moving up the career ladder. Our world is changing - we all need more skills than ever before. Two out of three jobs in the future will require a higher level of skills and better qualifications. In fact, in less than 10 years, there will be very few unskilled jobs. Learning new skill or gaining a new qualification could be a step in the right direction towards moving up the career ladder at work, earning more money, finding job, or just simply improving your confidence, life skills and self-esteem.

Project aims:

Responding to the recession
The project will open & promote learning centres or resource centres in order for people to seek advice on CV writing, online employment opportunities & other initiatives. We may provide links to local Jobcentre Plus sites.

Union Learning Representatives
The project will encourage & promote learning whilst encouraging members to become ULR's. We will also encourage existing union post holders to consider an additional post as a ULR.

Equality & Diversity
Previous projects have firmly embedded learning into many communities & sectors & although the main theme of this project is working with local authorities; learning will still be available to all adults in order to ensure that learning becomes an ongoing journey throughout adult life.

Informal Adult Learning
This is a new initiative whereby adults can become involved & engaged in learning without any pressures or absolute need for a formal qualification at the end of a course or learning session. Informal learning is designed for social enjoyment & engagement which might lead onto enthusiasm for further learning.

Skills For Life
This has always been a major initiative for adult learning in the UK in order that we can be prepared for the future. The new project will continue in this work in order to be able to map future skills requirements against forecasts in skill shortages.

Learning Centres
The project will continue to promote the opening of new learning centres within local authorities, employers & communities in order to provide alternative ways of learning new skills. The types of provisions within the centres will vary depending upon individual requirements & space availability.

Some learning centres will be fully functional in terms of offering & delivering courses through partnerships with colleges & providers; whereas others may be resource centres offering computer & internet facilities for CV writing, distance learning or guided internet browsing for people interested in future learning opportunities. Lists of dedicated websites for learning will be available & the project will fund suitable levels of equipment in order for the engagement in learning to become available.
